Academics and Football Hand in Hand

The Peninsula Pop Warner Conference has selected one hundred fifty participants from Salinas Pop Warner to its 2009 “All Conference Scholastic Team.” Awards banquet at the Marriott Hotel in Santa Clara, California.

Salinas Pop Warner prides itself in holding high academic standards for its Football, Cheer participants, and awards these outstanding athletes for their exemplary performance not only on the field of competition but most importantly in the classroom.

The Peninsula Pop Warner Conference started its Scholar- Athlete Program in 1981. The intent and focus for our participants is that academic achievements and sports go hand in hand. Pop Warner is the only National Youth Organization that places emphasis on academics and has a program to recognize our Scholar-Athletes nationwide. The Pop Warner Program begins at the local level and has Regional and National recognition.

Pop Warner Directors and Officers feel that the program reinforces the need for its participants to remain in school and to maintain a specific grade point average in order to participate on the athletic field. The Scholar-Athlete Program provides positive reinforcement to the athletes and challenges them to continue their scholastic achievements.

Congratulations to all of the Salinas Pop Warner Scholar-Athletes who have been recognized for their commitment, dedication and effort for the 2009 season.

We have 148 Scholar athletes (click for list!) for 2009. It would be great for all to attend the Scholastic Awards Banquet.  We will arrange buses if enough of our association attends.  There will be special room rates offered by the Marriot Hotel for those who want to stay overnight.
